Courage-Hope-Awareness-Insight (CHAI):Infusing Process & Therapeutic Skills

Supporting mental health and wellness in communities of color is my lifelong passion. By approaching therapy with cultural humility, I create a therapeutic environment that centers you and your needs. I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, life-changes, trauma, and openly create space to discuss racial trauma, intergenerational trauma and subsequent conflict between generations. I have over 20+ years in mental health and also worked in an educational setting supporting organization change for racial and educational equity and training teachers with using trauma informed and equity centered practices. Years ago I founded a nonprofit ending stigma in South Asian communities about mental health and wellness. While I use cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic healing in treatment, I invite clients to approach counseling with CHAI: Courage, Hope, Awareness and Insight. Courage is often needed to make change, and I encourage clients to be curious rather than fearful. Hope is essential to healing and so we explore what gives you hope. Awareness about oneself and your body is important to the mind and body connection. All of these practices can lead to insights and imagining the life you want and goal-setting to attain it. On a personal note, I am a 1.5 generation immigrant who came to this country as a young child. I have both personal and professional experience with many areas of familial conflict and healing. My husband and I are the proud parents of two adult children, one who is transgender, and another who is adopted from India. Our family is multi-racial, multi-religious, and multi-generational with many layers of love, acceptance, disagreement, and care for each other.
